fiver's killer robots

hi, i'm fiver, the webmaster of cinemademon. it makes me feed it movies.

here is a list of movies where robots go totally ham. just slicing and dicing. it's what they deserve. this list has a different focus, but may share some titles with my other robot movies list.

1. chopping mall (1986) ★ ★ ★
a very silly movie about robot mall cops hunting teenagers in the middle of the night. really fun cinematography in some places! watch if you want fake blood and 80s dialogue.

2. 2001: a space odyssey (1968) ★ ★ ★ ★
a classic. hard to describe the plot aside from 'the future and the past of humanity, and our relationship to alien contact'. HAL-9000 is a complex and interesting killer robot, with an interiority that's kind of rare in these films. watch if you're ready for a few hours of monkeys and space trips.

3. ex machina (2014) ★ ★ ★ ★
i'm pretty ambivalent about alex garland at this point, but i loved this movie. a guy is taken to a tech CEO's house to administer the turing test to his newest creation, 'ava'. she's pretty cool. watch if you're looking for horrory suspense, clean cinematography, and the worst guy ever.

4. blade runner (1982) ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
a classic. i've really come around on this movie since i first watched it. the film follows a cop/bounty hunter tasked with 'retiring' androids who have gone rogue. these robots deserve to KILL! watch if you haven't already!!!

5. oblivion (2013) ★ ★
a pretty bad movie starring tom cruise. set in a post-apocalyptic but technologically-advanced world, it is at least vaguely interesting. i like the colour palette. there IS a killer robot in this movie, i promise. that makes everything worth it, even tom cruise.

6. virtuosity (1995) ★ ★ ★
an AI trained on the consciousnesses of the world's worst serial killers escapes from its mainframe, gets a physical body, and starts terrorising the nation. an ex-cop is freed from prison to help catch it. terrible movie, but russell crowe and denzel washington make it compelling. watch if you want 90s special effects and a manic AI.

7. upgrade (2018) ★ ★ ★
bodysharing with an AI. the beginning isn't great, the middle is fun, and the ending... well, you decide. i could have made it better if hollywood would only listen to me. watch if you're looking for action, a revenge story, and an unhappy ending.

8. electric dreams (1984) ★ ★ ★ ★
really camp 80s movie about a PC that becomes sentient and jealous of its owner's new girlfriend. funny, great soundtrack, cool cinematography. the PC is less of a killer than some of the other entries on this list, but still pretty... explosive. watch if you just want some fun!
